At first glance, it looks like part of a suit, but upon closer inspection, it is a vest designed to be worn on its own. It features tailored lapels while eliminating the sleeves, and the front body is made of 58% silk and 42% wool with fine stripes. The back and lining are made of cupro.
In the early 1990s in Japan, the style of wearing matching suits evolved into separating jackets and vests to combine them with other clothes. This particular piece perfectly exemplifies this trend, taking the structure of a formal suit and transforming it into a standalone item for layering.
